How to find a hotel deal this summer?

While planning for a summer vacation, hotels are the last item on people’s list to book. This is not a good approach especially if you are traveling with family as good hotels are booked first. You might be stuck with a badly managed and located hotel.

Summer is the busiest holiday season in USA and I felt that it is important to share some tips about booking a hotel for your summer vacation.

Many vacationers look for newer and more luxurious hotels while some old tradition hotels with excellent track record of customer service are available for a lesser price. Recently I helped a customer book a hotel in Los Angeles with 100 years of history. The price was 25% less than a newer hotel. He thoroughly enjoyed his stay and told me that the staff told him many interesting stories of past celebrities.

Hotels located near popular tourist destination are always more expensive and more crowded. I recently went on a family vacation to Las Vegas, we booked a hotel that was half a mile away from the famous strip but much more comfortable, cheaper and convenient. We did not have to face drunken couples who were depressed because of their losses in casinos.

Weekend rates are cheaper than week day rates for hotels. The reason is that many business traveler book hotels during week days for their business trips. Hotels on the other hand market their properties more for week day business travelers. If you want to save money it is always better to book hotels for the week end.

If you book hotel with a car in a package you might be able to save some more as travel services companies like GetUSAHotels to get bulk discounts for package sales. Do your own math and if you feel you can get a better hotel with a car for the same price then it is a good deal.

There is no set formula for saving on travel but a little effort can make your trip enjoyable, comfortable and economical.

Holiday Activities In Big Apple

Many people believe that New York is a place with high rise glass and steel building occupied by investment bankers who want to just make money. But the reality is that New York is a cultural, fashion, entertainment and tourist Mecca. There are many events during the holiday season that attract millions of tourist from around the world to participate in.
One of the most famous events on New York calendar is Macy’s thanksgiving parade. In 1924, the annual Thanksgiving parade started by Louis Bamberger in Newark, New Jersey at the Bamberger’s store was transferred to New York by Macy’s. In New York, the employees marched to Macy’s flagship store on 34th Street dressed in vibrant costumes. There were floats, professional bands and live animals borrowed from the Central Park Zoo. At the end of that first parade, as has been the case with every parade since, Santa Claus was welcomed into Herald Square. At this first parade, however, the Jolly Old Elf was enthroned on the Macy’s balcony at the 34th Street store entrance, where he was then “crowned” “King of the Kiddies.” With an audience of over a quarter of a million people, the parade was such a success that Macy’s declared it would become an annual event.
The event has grown so famous around the world that people plan their visit to New York solely to visit the parade. In recent years the parade has become controversial because of the accidents caused by huge inflated cartoon figures.
The other celebrated event is the New Year’s Eve ball drop celebrations at the Time square. On December 31, 1907, a ball signifying New Year’s Day was first dropped at Times Square, and the Square has held the main New Year’s celebration in New York City ever since. On this night hundreds of thousands of people congregate to watch the Waterford crystal ball being lowered on a pole atop the building (though not to the street, as is a common misconception), marking the new year. It replaced a lavish fireworks display from the top of the building that was held from 1904 to 1906, only to be outlawed by city officials. Beginning in 1908, and for more than eighty years thereafter, Times Square sign maker Artkraft Strauss was responsible for the ball-lowering. During World War II, a minute of silence, followed by a recording of church bells pealing, replaced the ball drop because of wartime blackout restrictions. Today, Countdown Entertainment and One Times Square handle the New Years’ Eve event in conjunction with the Times Square Alliance. A new energy-efficient LED ball, celebrating the centennial of the ball drop, debuted for the arrival of 2008. The newest ball, which will be dropped on New Year’s Eve for the arrival of 2009, will be larger and become a permanent installation as a year-round attraction.
Many couples plan their trips to this event to tie knots with their loved ones to make it more memorable. New York is also famous for its broad way shows and musicals. It is the city that never sleeps and provides round the clock entertainment to the visitors from all over the world. New York is also considered as United Nations of USA because of presence of people from all over the world. This designation is also justified because UN headquarters are also based in New York. It is estimated that 6 million people visit New York daily for various purposes. New York supports economies of its adjoining states like New Jersey & Connecticut. New York is a must see for anyone who wants to experience the potential of the human kind.

Los Angeles: City of Angels

The word “Los” in Spanish means city, so Los Angeles in Spanish means city of Angels. Los Angeles, or LA as it is popularly called, is one of the top tourist destinations. It is part of Southern California and famous for its beaches. The weather of the city is neither too hot nor too cold just moderate throughout the year. But the temperatures vary drastically throughout the day. Afternoons are the warmest but evenings are a little chilly with median temperature of 72 to 76 degrees.

Los Angeles became part of the USA in 1848 at the end of Mexican-American war. LA and California was purchased by USA as part of Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. It was incorporated as a municipality in 1850 five months before California got its statehood in the nation.

The greater Los Angeles area is a combination of many smaller cities spread around it. The demographic of Los Angeles are slowly tilting towards Hispanic community. The rise in the population of Hispanics has forced the city to adopt a multicultural dynamics with Spanish considered as the second language. This rise in Spanish speaking population is the result of close proximity to Mexico which is only few miles away from the city. These Hispanics contribute significantly to the cultural diversity of the city as well as maintain the economic engine of growth.

Los Angeles offers many attractions but the most famous are Hollywood Blvd, Universal Studios theme park and Beverly Hills’ shopping area. Los Angeles is also home to many live comedy shows that produce talented comedians famous around the world. Unlike many big cities like Chicago, New York and San Francisco, LA is not famous for its high rises but its importance as a cultural center. Los Angeles is considered one of the top fashion centers setting new trends. LA’s famous museums and opera houses are not only architectural landmarks but house world famous paintings, sculpture and modern art.

The major daily newspaper in the area is the Los Angeles Times; La Opinión is the city’s major Spanish-language paper. Investor’s Business Daily is distributed from its L.A. corporate offices, which are headquartered in Playa Del Rey. There are also a number of smaller regional newspapers, alternative weeklies and magazines, including the Daily News (which focuses coverage on the San Fernando Valley), LA Weekly, Los Angeles CityBeat, L.A. Record (which focuses coverage on the music scene in the Greater Los Angeles area), Los Angeles magazine, Los Angeles Business Journal, Los Angeles Daily Journal (legal industry paper), The Hollywood Reporter and Variety (entertainment industry papers), and Los Angeles Downtown News. In addition to the English- and Spanish-language papers, numerous local periodicals serve immigrant communities in their native languages, including Armenian, Korean, Persian, Russian, Chinese and Japanese. Many cities adjacent to Los Angeles also have their own daily newspapers whose coverage and availability overlaps into certain Los Angeles neighborhoods. Examples include The Daily Breeze (serving the South Bay), and The Long Beach Press-Telegram. Los Angeles is considered as one of the favored tourist destination in the world. Tourists for all over the world flock to LA to experience its deep culture, fashion and entertainment offerings. The tourist from pacific nations of Japan, China and Korea dominate the numbers. This may also be because of large Chinese immigrant population living in greater LA area.

How to find a job in economic recession?

Saturday, June 20, 2009 17:48
Posted in category Career

One of my friend recently told me that if your neighbor lose a job its recession but if you lose a job that’s depression.

The key question on any laid off person’s mind is how to find a job quickly when there are so many job seekers out there. There is no simple answer for this question but there are some common pitfalls that you can avoid. Here are some tips that might be valuable for you:

1. Don’t wait for a job in your field: When a person is unemployed he is under increasing pressure to find a job quickly. This could result in bad interviews, desperation, burn out of savings etc. A better strategy could be to find a job in an odd field just to stay afloat. The timings of this job should be such that you can spend your day time looking for an ideal job while this temp job helps you pay some or all of your bills. One such job that comes to mind is pizza delivery.

2. Don’t expect sending resume is enough: The objective of a resume is to earn you an interview. You have to create variations of your resume to make them suitable for various jobs that you apply. Visit Job Listings for some sample resumes.

3. Don’t expect that cover letters are useless: Many candidates feel that recruiters do not look at the cover letter or that a brief one paragraph cover letter is enough. That’s a misconception; actually recruiters look at a resume only when their interest is ignited by a well written cover letter. You might have one resume for different jobs but a unique cover letter for each job application can help you improve your chances. For some cover letter samples visit Job Listings.

4. Don’t expect people to recommend you on their own. The key is to ask your friends, family and colleagues to help you find a job opening. Referrals are still considered the best source of qualified candidates. It costs companies to find potential employees even in a down economy. A referral eliminates a lot of risk of hiring a total stranger.

These are some basic tips, but in the end don’t shy away from sending resumes to as many probably jobs as you can. Job Listings has a good database of jobs in all fields.

Don’t get disheartened and demoralized, stay positive and keep on applying.

Backup Data Properly

Posted in category Computers, Data Recovery

Computer data can be very important to us, especially those of us who make a living on the computer.  Over the last several years, the computer has grown on all of us, making our lives so much easier.  For that very reason, it’s easy to tell that if we lost our computer data, it would completely destroy a majority of us.

Losing data can be an overwhelming thought to say the least.  Computers store data, although machines have been known to fail.  Even though the computer has become a lot more reliable over the years, it is virtually impossible to prevent computers from losing data.

You don’t need to take this lying down through, as you can indeed fight back.  The ideal way to ensure that you never lose your precious data, is to back it up and keep backing it up.  You should back up your computer data at least once a week, with once per day being the recommended way to do it.

In the past, and even some today, the floppy disc is the main method used to back up computer data.  Even though they store a small amount of data, they are easy to access, easy to use, and nearly every computer has one.

Those of you who are looking to take things to the next level should look into backing up your entire hard drive.  Backing up your entire hard drive is something that everyone should do, as it is indeed one of the best and most reliable ways to backup your computer.

When you create a backup of your entire hard drive, it will copy all of your information, so if something happens you’ll always have your data.  Doing a full backup of your hard drive is great, although it can be very time consuming.  To make matters worse, it is recommended that you create  a backup at least once a week.  On the other hand, if what you have on your computer is very important, you’ll find it more than worth the effort and time needed to back things up.

Another way you can back up your data, programs, and files, is to burn them directly to a data CD or DVD.  This way, you can select which files or folders you want to keep.  If you use CD/RW or DVD/RW disks, you can continue to add information to them when you create a backup.  If you don’t use the RW (re-writable) media, then you won’t be able to go back and add more information to the disc.

Burning data directly to discs are the method of backup that most people are using these days, although backing up the entire hard drive is the preferred way of backing up your data.  If you plan to use discs, you’ll need either a CD or DVD burner, which you can get for a great price these days.  The discs are cheap as well, which only makes this method of backing things up that much better.

Whether it’s for your business or for personal reasons, you can’t go wrong backing up your data.  You should always strive to back things up properly, as this will ensure that the data will always be there when you need it.  This way, if you computer happens to crash or you lose everything on your hard drive, you’ll always have your backup files to go back to.  This in itself can save you a lot of time, effort, and quite possibly even money - just for the simple fact that the files are all but a copy away to restore.

Backup Data On Your Laptop

Thursday, October 23, 2008 5:01
Posted in category Data Recovery

If you were to look at past statistics regarding the information that has been lost in regards to laptop computers, you would find yourself amazed.  Even though this information can be astounding, many of us still don’t take the time to back up the information on our laptops.

To put it in simple terms, nothing in the computer industry is fool proof.  Hard drives can crash, the laptop can get stolen, or it can even be dropped and rendered useless.  To ensure that we are never left without our precious data, we should always create a backup of our information.

There is no mistaken the fact that over a million laptops have been stolen over the years in the United States alone.  Anytime a laptop is stolen, chances are that it won’t be recovered.  If the information wasn’t backed up, then the owner will be left with no laptop - but more importantly - no backed up data either.

Just like you can with desktop computers, you can also create a backup of the data on your laptop as well.  You can use online services, back it up remotely, or use several other methods to ensure that you keep all of your data.  Preserving your data is something you should really look into, especially if you have business material on your laptop.

The best way to go about backing up your data and files is to burn them to a data CD.  Data CDs can hold up to 700 MB (Mega Bytes) of data, which means a lot of files.  To back things up this way, all you need is a CD/RW burner in your laptop, which most of the newer ones come with.

The only drawback to laptops is the fact that they don’t offer near as much storage or security measures as a desktop PC.  Desktop computers have a lot more power, and they can also do things (including backups) in a fraction of the time.

The laptop computer was designed for on the go use, which is the main reason why people don’t really think about backing up their data.  When the thought finally does come to mind, it is normally too late to do anything about it.

As mentioned above, the easiest and quickest way to backup your laptop data is to use an online backup service.  Depending on your connection to the Internet, it can take anywhere from several minutes to several hours.  Although it may take you a little bit of time, you’ll have the satisfaction in knowing that your data is there if something should happen.

Whether it’s for your business or personal use, you can’t go wrong backing up your data.  You should always create a backup of your data at least once a month, even more than that if you have a lot of important information that you add to your laptop on a frequent basis.

All About Data Recovery

All About Data Recovery

At some point in time, everyone who owns a computer will experience the trials and tribulations of hard drive failure.  The reasons behind it vary, and could include everything from a human error to damages resulting from flood or water.  Viruses can play a role as well, along with many other factors.  For many years, the need to recover data that has been lost or destroyed has made data recovery such a very valuable asset.

Almost all hard drives can be recovered.  Normally, if the drive is making a ticking or a scratching noise, you can use certain software programs to recover the data.  Sometimes, due to age or bad parts, the aperture arm in the hard drive can fail, or the platters can become damaged and lose the data that they hold.  If you can’t recover the information with software, you’ll need to send the hard drive off and have it either rebuilt or have technicians recover your data.

Data recovery is always an option, from hard drives that are 2 GB in size to the largest of over 300    GB or more of data.  No matter what size hard drive you have, the data can generally be recovered.  Keep in mind that if you’ve had a computer crash, you’ll need to send the hard drive off to have the data recovered by technicians.

One of the key benefits of data recovery is the fact that information can also be retrieved from the recycle bin as well.  Partition recovery, and even information that has been lost somewhere on the disk can be retrieved as well.  Even though it may seem like your data is gone forever - the technicians that specialize in data recovery can retrieve it.

From Windows to Mac, everything can be recovered.  There are different filing structures and formats, including NTFS and FAT32.  These are common Windows filing structures, and hold all of the information for your hard.

Those of you who have multiple hard drives in your computer, can rest assured that RAID configurations can also be recovered.  If a single hard drive on the RAID configuration fails, the RAID setup will absorb the blow and there won’t be a loss of data.  On the other hand, if the entire RAID configuration crashes, it will crash big time.  Whenever this happens, you’ll need to send it off and have technicians restore both the RAID hardware and software.

Anytime your hard drive happens to crash or malfunction, data recovery is there to help you get back your files.  Whether they are personally files or very important files that are need for business - you can put your trust in data recovery and know that you’ll get everything the back the way it was.

5 Major Benefits of Article Marketing

Thursday, October 16, 2008 3:36

Advertising on the internet does not have to be frustrating or expensive if you consider the cost and benefits of article marketing. Attracting targeted traffic to your website thru a sea of competitive ads can be a very daunting task.

Let’s look at 5 ways publishing articles can enhance both your business and your reputation.

1) Personalizes you to the masses

Readers of your articles have the chance to become more familiar with you as a person thru the tone, attitude, and passion projected by your writings. This gives the reader a better sense of what your interest may be or your feelings toward certain subject matter. In this way they’re better able to connect with you as opposed to reading a stoic and static ad.

2) Broader exposure over the internet

Submitting your articles to highly ranked article directories allows you to ‘piggyback’ off their high page ranking provided of course your article is accepted and published by them. Now your article can be viewed by anybody searching the keywords your article has been optimized for.

3) No cost Advertising

Writing and submitting your own articles will cost you nothing except the time invested. Additionally, if your article proves popular enough with the directories it can be kept in circulation by them for an indefinite period of time extending your ability to promote your site.

4) Credibility Factor

As stated earlier your article, properly optimized for certain keywords, will be offered up by the search engines to anyone looking for information related to your article content. With that in mind you are now considered a source of information to those readers therefore it stands to reason the better the content the more credible you become in their eyes. This credibility is a valuable asset to have in building your reputation online and should not be taken lightly. Your words, opinions, and marketing efforts will have a greater influence as a result.

5) Increase your website page rank

As mentioned earlier when we submit our article to directories you’ll be able to ‘piggyback’ off their page rankings. Articles directories usually have strong page rankings due to the continuous flow of traffic they get from people searching their sites for information contain in articles like yours. Now when you consider that you’ve placed a link back to your site within the resource box of your article it’s inevitable you’ll have readers clicking on your link. With these link backs coming from highly ranked sites such as these directories the search engines will in turn increase your sites ranking.

Now that you’ve come to realize some of the benefits of article marketing, wouldn’t it be silly to not incorporate this strategy in your marketing plan? With just a little bit of work and no out of pocket expenses you can generate a steady stream of targeted traffic to your site for some time to come.
